Bubba Burgers
(Hamburgers)

Most scouts like hamburgers when they camp.  Being thrifty, scouts tend to buy cheap frozen burgers.  However, when they get ready to cook them they discover that the burgers have thawed in the ice box.  Many of the lower cost frozen burgers fall apart if thawed.  We have found that Bubba Burgers (there really is a brand named Bubba Burgers) stay together even if not completely frozen.

Ingredients

Equipment

Basics

  • Frozen Bubba Burgers

  • Buns

Optional

  • Catsup

  • Mayonnaise

  • Mustard (honey mustard)

  • Cheese

  • lettuce

  • tomato (1 good sized tomato for 8 scouts usually works because some scouts won't eat this.)

  • onion (1 good sized onion for 8 scouts usually works because some scouts won't eat this)

  • stove, fire pit, or some source of heat

  • Medium Skillet or camp grill

  • knife to chop onions, etc...

Prep the optional ingredients.  Cut the onion and the tomato into thin slices.  Pull the lettuce apart into bun sized pieces.  Set the buns and all the optional items on the serving area so the scouts can assemble their own burger.

Cook the Bubba Burgers directly on the camp grill or on a skillet.  Let them cook on the first side until the top looks completely thawed and you can see little pools of blood all across the top.  Turn burger over and cook until done.  If you have a meat thermometer make sure the inside is at least 160.
