Personal Emergency Service Pack
The Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge
requirement 8c states that you should "Prepare a personal emergency service pack
for a mobilization call." Here, in Florida, a good definition of this kit
would be:
- Poncho with a hood
- Underwear
- Socks
- Small bag of Toiletries (toothbrush, toilet
paper, etc.)
- Sleeping bag or Fleece in waterproof bag
- map of area you expect to be in
- 50 ft nylon cord
- hand axe (Totin Chit training)
- belt knife (Totin Chit training)
- water purification tablets or equivalent
filtration system
- cook kit
- canteen or bottle
- flashlight
- battery radio (don't bring this to planned
scout activities unless specifically requested)
- extra batteries
- hard hat (don't bring this to planned scout
activities unless specifically requested)
- personal 1st aid kit (as defined in the First
Aid Merit Badge book)
- Fire starting capability
- matches in waterproof container
- or Flint and steel and cotton balls with
Vaseline stored in a medicine bottle
- or Zippo style lighter (liquid lighter fuel,
not pressurized)
- rations - 1 day - well wrapped
- pencil and notebook
- cloth or handkerchief
- extra adhesive bandages
- compass
- watch
- pocket knife (Totin Chit training)
- tissues
- work gloves
- other gear or special needs as required.
