Family Emergency Service Pack
The Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge requirement 8c states that you should Prepare a family kit (suitcase or waterproof box) for use by your family in case an emergency evacuation is needed. Explain the needs and uses of the contents.
Each member of the family should have a personal emergency service pack.
The Family Emergency Service Pack should consist of the following:
| Three (3) days supply of water | figure 2 gallons of water per person per day. This includes drinking water, cooking water, and cleaning water. Keep the water in a cool place and replace it periodically to prevent it from going bad. |
| Eating Utensils | Water for cleanup may be in short supply. Try to stock a supply of plastic eating utensils that can be thrown away. |
| Three (3) days supply of non-perishable foods and a can opener | Water for cooking and fuel for heating may be in short supply. Therefore be sure to stock some pre-cooked food and soups that can be eaten cold. Store food in cool dark places. Be sure to have can openers or whatever it takes to open the packages |
| Any special needs | If you or a member of your family has special needs be sure to account for it. |
| Family 1st Aid Kit | As defined in the BSA First Aid Merit Badge Book |
| Prescription Meds | If you stock a supply of medications be sure to replace them before the expiration date runs out. |
| Battery operated radio | |
| flashlight and/or lantern | |
| extra batteries | |
| Matches | Be sure to pack in a waterproof container and have a good striking surface |
| Blankets and or sleeping bags | enough for all members of the family |
| Emergency Toilet | The water may be off and the cess pool or sewer may be backed up. Be sure that the family can safe and sanely use the facilities for three (3) days |
